The library of the Benedictine abbey in Broumov.

First written information about this library dates back to 1322. Through the ages some 67 thousand precious volumes were gathered here with only some 20 thousand remaining today, as the communists burned and destroyed most of the collection in 1950 when the abbey was turned into an internment place for monks from all over the Czech Republic.

On the balcony railing you can see portraits of professors from the Benedictine school, among them Jacob II Chmel, the abbot who renovated the library in 1792. Ceiling paintings by Jan Karl Kovář depict Christ teaching in the Temple on one side and the Transfiguration of Jesus on the other.
