This small Gothic church, standing at the foot of the Wawel Hill, is traditionally said to be funded in the 11th century by Prince Władysław Herman but archeological research moves its beginnings to mid-14th century.

The Gothic brick church was built here in 13th century for monks coming from Prague. Destroyed by the great fire of 1850, it was reconstructed in neo-Gothic style in 1850-1912.
